Translating the catwalk’s most wanted looks to your everyday wardrobe can be tricky. So here is my one-stop cheat sheet, for the Spring season’s most coveted looks. From botanical prints to contemporary tailoring, here’s how to bring in a new season refresh to your closet.

Statement Shirts: The staple cotton shirt receives a directional makeover for spring/summer 2018. Designers were seen experimenting with dipped hems, asymmetric hemlines and sash belts to upgrade the essential cotton shirt. The reworked shirt look is cool rather than corporate and a new spring go-to. Try wearing with wide-leg jeans, or opt for a nonchalant feel with a sporty cross-body bag, as seen at Eudon Choi.

Contrasting Stripes and Checks: Want to keep things interesting this spring? Try clashing staple checks and stripes for an idiosyncratic look. Contrasting checks with stripes is a thoroughly modern look for spring. Take your inspiration from the Céline runway with a block-striped top tucked into a plaid maxi skirt. Find your ideal mismatch and wear all season.

Urban Jungle: The usual florals for spring? Not this year! Instead channel the heat of the tropics combined with exotic prints instead. Wear head-to-foot for maximum impact or dip a toe into the new season wilderness with a printed skirt. To make the most of this spring print move on, style with a sports-luxe hoodie and ankle boots for spring, then block-heeled mules as the weather warms up.

Loose Tailoring: Fashion’s love affair with relaxed tailoring continues into spring/summer 2018, making this your cue to invest in a chic suit. Keep your silhouette contemporary with soft fluid pieces, such as a long-line jacket or wide-leg trousers, and wear slightly oversized for that effortless feel and look. Dress this style down with a white tee and take it into the weekend with the addition of faded denim.

Long Lengths: The chicest silhouette this season is long and luxurious. Finishing touches such as pie-crust collars, balloon sleeves and asymmetric hemlines add interest to long flowing fabrics. Complete the look with tonal court shoes or add trainers for off-duty cool. This intriguing spring 2018 trend is certainly one to guarantee a sweeping statement.

As the days get shorter, the nights longer and the autumn chill sets in, I take a look at the knitwear must-haves for the season, to see you through the chilly fall evenings and the long winter nights.

The long-line sweater: This is an easy way to do relaxed glamour, with the longer lined knit making it cosy at the same time. Pair with a pleated skirt – the staple look for the season. Try a gorgeous midi in a vivid autumnal hue and mix up these textures for a very modern, flattering way of dressing.

The cosy crew: our staple crew comes with the perfect slouch and fit, combined with the elegance of classic styling. It’s a really simple way to dress up or down an outfit. Add knee high boots for a mix of high and low glamour to feel relaxed and comfortable.

The statement knit: The beauty of this knit is that while it’s a statement, it’s so comfortable. The embellished detail means it will take you easily from weekend wear with denim to an event straight after work. Team it with tailored black trousers and classic courts for a minimal look with a twist, or with the velvet pleated skirt like I have for new take on eveningwear.

The polo neck layer knit: The roll neck comeback is real. This trusty dress-up or down workhorse can be worn off-duty or on special occasions in lightweight cotton or warming knits, the roll-neck should be a firm fixture in your closet.

The Christmas knit: It is impossible not to feel festive in a novelty knit. From understated chunky styles to fabulously over-the-top patterns complete with motion-activated lights, there’s a jumper for everyone.

Summer is nearly over, the temperature will start to drop, and that means it’s time to change to your warmer wardrobe.

For me that means that a frill detail, a colour-block sweater, a timeless trench coat, a statement blazer and the culotte denim are all high on my list of autumn wear. Here’s how to carry off this look in the months ahead.

Just for the Frill of It

The classic white shirt has been given a new lease of life with a playful update and some fashion frills. Wear it to the office with sleek cigarette-style trousers, swapping for cropped denim flares for off-duty. If you’re layering up with knitwear, make sure the sleeves are pulled through to show them off.

The colour-block sweater

Red is the colour of autumn/winter 2017 and a simple crew neck sweater in this hue is a perfect basic for your closet this season. Wear with skirts and trousers for work, or with jeans and trainers at the weekend. This wardrobe staple is a comfortable look that is so easy to wear, and the vibrant colour pulls your look together whilst making you feel fantastic.

The forever trench

I love wearing a trench in autumn; it smartens up any look in a cool, unfussy way. This trench is a beautiful fit – neat at the shoulders and a flattering cut. Make it your own by adding a striking belt for structure. This trench works perfectly during the 9-5 working week and with your downtime denim.

A look sharp blazer

Keep it stylish and contemporary with a tuxedo blazer, perfect to take you from day-to-night. Blazers continue to be on-trend, and this modern take on a classic is perfect both with a floaty midi for a casual yet smart look, or traditional trouser for a flattering and modern suit.

The cream of the crop denim

For the weekend I am coveting a pair of denim culottes. Although you can style culottes with flat shoes, this jeans silhouette is a lot easier to pull off when you wear high heels to elongate the leg line and help you avoid looking stumpy in this shorter style jean. So, take the opportunity to show off your most fabulous autumn footwear. For denim work Fridays, tuck in a blouse and add a chic jacket to complete your look.

Even though the weather says height of summer, the stores are signaling that the end of summer is nigh and it’s time to bargain hunt. It’s all too easy to lose focus in the sale frenzy, so tactics are key to being sensible and shopping successfully. Here are my top sale shopping tips.

Don’t be seduced by the discount tag

Despite the promise of a great saving, don’t let the sale tag lead you into a false sense of security. Really consider if you would actually wear the item. Nothing is a bargain if it’s simply going to hang in at the back of your closet unworn.

Do a closet inventory

Consider what you actually need, where are the gaps in your wardrobe and what essentials could do with being updated. This is a perfectly strategic way to tackle the sale racks.

Check your social calendar

This is a prime time to think about upcoming events that need something special for the occasion. Summer sales are the perfect opportunity to pick up that party outfit with big savings and avoiding the last minute panic.

Only buy something that fits

Don’t buy anything ill-fitting with the intention of getting it tailored or losing weight unless you absolutely mean it. A few half-hearted sale purchases can add up to one new-season item that you get more wear out of, making your sale purchases much less of a bargain.

A final word of advice

Think smart and make wise investments by seeing what’s coming next season and which pieces can do the double duty of transitioning you from summer to autumn. Go from sleeveless to long sleeves with some cropped pants; add monochrome to summer brights; a sparkly sequin jacket to a black jumpsuit; add a silky blouse to denim skirts and a denim jacket to maxi dresses.
